Fasting Policy

Fasting including Ramadan 

In autumn term 2024 we consulted parents and staff on whether to change our previous position. We also took a lead from documents published by the Islamic Society of Britain and the Federation of Muslim Organisations as recently as 2022.

There is no requirement for children to fast until they reach puberty. However, we also understand that some children want to prepare themselves for this time by fasting before they reach puberty. From conversations we know that some children have a deep sense of faith and want to fast along with other family members. Our policy aims to strike a balance between this and ensuring that we carry out our overriding duties of welfare and safeguarding for all our children.

The policy below has now been adopted and we require our families to work with the policy.
